Hard Disk Drive Giant Pairs Industry-Leading Capacity with Next Generation

Milpitas, CA, June 6, 2005 - Maxtor Corporation (NYSE: MXO), a worldwide leader
in hard disk drives and consumer storage products, announced today that the
company will be shipping its next-generation 3.5-inch 7200RPM 3.0Gb SATA and
ATA 133 hard drives with capacity points up to 500GB in the third quarter of
this year. The new capacity will span the company's line of award-winning products,
including Maxtor® QuickView® (consumer electronics - DVR/STBs, DVD/HDD
combo devices), MaXLine® (enterprise applications), DiamondMax® (desktop),
Maxtor Shared Storage™ (easy add-on storage for a home network) and Maxtor
OneTouch™ (simple external storage and backup) brand hard drives.
The new 500GB hard drives will include a host of new features to meet the distinct
needs of each brand's application area. The features will provide significant
improvements in areas such as performance, thermal optimization, data management
and security, interface and AV stream detection. The 500GB hard drives will
also be RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant.
